Strike threat to local polls

Councils are bracing themselves as the threat of industrial action looms over the local elections. While the local government pensions row rumbles on, returning officers are being urged to make contingency plans in the event of industrial action on 4 May.

 The 11 unions involved in the dispute have already scheduled strikes for the 25, 26 and 27 April. But senior officers are preparing in the event of unions striking on polling day.
