Striking the right balance

Improving a work-life balance is not only better for the general health of your employees but it benefits the business too, writes Simon Lee.

As budget cuts lead to  longer working days of having to ‘do more with less' and with increasing reliance on technology and the consequences of permanent connectivity, the balance of work and life is constantly under threat. Andy Silvester of the Institute of Directors told The Guardian in May that stress,depression and anxiety ranked as the largest reason for absence in the workplace.

MentalHealth.org.uk says work-related stress cost Britain 10.4 million working days per year. As Brexit looms,many of us wonder if the work-life balance protected by EU laws are at risk of being eroded?
