Striving for better engagement

Maintaining dialogue with residents and securing mutual trust between the council and local residents needs to be part of the whole council’s DNA, writes Cllr Judi Billing.

At a time when public services are undergoing fundamental change and central government continues to reduce council budgets, few could doubt the importance of better engagement with local communities. 

Indeed, there are huge risks attached to transforming the day-to-day services that people have come to rely on without truly engaging the public or giving them a genuine opportunity to be involved.
