Strong civic leadership is key to better public transport

When urban regions work together, they can create more strategic and impactful transport strategies and they should turn to regions like Greater Manchester and the West Midlands for inspiration, says Alistair Gordon.

It's a question that has troubled Prime Ministers and governments for years: How can we aim to replicate London's economic muscle and integrated transport system across the country?

With levelling up central to the current government's initial election agenda in 2019, there's a growing need for fresh, tangible action to support neglected regions of the country. Many of these areas have also been disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
