Members of Suffolk Coastal DC have approved measures which could reduce the number of councillors by more than a fifth from 55 to 43 – a move that could save the authority more than £100,000 annually. Proposals agreed by a working group of councillors, which included all four political group leaders, will be put before the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE). The LGBCE is currently reviewing the situation because of an uneven proportion of councillors to electors across the authority. In some areas there are 40% more electors than the district average.
