Sunderland City Council tonight received the accolade of being judged the Best Achieving Council in the UK at The MJ awards.

The council was one of 16 local authority winners chosen from 102 finalists in 16 different categories announced by presenter and BBC political editor Nick Robinson at a glittering gala night at London's Hilton Hotel on Park Lane attended by nearly 900 guests.
