Support for South Cambs

Local government leaders have pledged their support for South Cambridgeshire DC, after it received a damning report from the Audit Commission.

Local government leaders have pledged their support for South Cambridgeshire DC, after it received a damning report from the Audit Commission.
The report said the council's political leadership was poor and the local authority needed to improve its decision-making, standards of conduct, and focus on local communities.
But Sir Simon Milton, chairman of the Local Government Association's improvement board, leapt to the council's defence.
‘I hope that with the support of local government colleagues, South Cambridgeshire can move forward.'
The inspectors found that the council was unlikely to improve over the next 12 months without help from outside.
The executive director of the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), Lucy de Groot, said: ‘We will do everything we can to help South Cambridgeshire.'
A new council leader, Ray Manning, was elected last month, and has pledged to turn the local authority around.
‘I say that enough is enough,' said Cllr Manning. ‘There are going to be very big changes made and I am delighted at the promises of help and support we have received from across local government.'
In his speech to the SOLACE conference in October, former local government minister, Nick Raynsford, berated the local government family for failing to step in when a council was in trouble.
