Supporting staff on the front line

Pressure is mounting on the country’s informal carers as demand rises and funding cuts continue to impact on services. Harold Bodmer explains why councils and central government must recognise and support these individuals

I was recently invited by Carers UK to speak at their State of Caring Conference. This is one of my priorities as Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) president, so I was grateful for the opportunity to join such an interesting conference.

Over the years, social care has shifted its focus to community, home-based services, now funded and organised through personal care budgets.
