Shelter has called on ministers to tackle the root causes of homelessness, and not just the symptoms, after ministers announced another £3.5m of financial support.

Housing minister Grant Shapps outlined a series of new preventative measures last week – and published a report he claimed should become a ‘blue print' for councils and health trusts seeking to work together to tackle homelessness.
