Taking care of the future

A crisis is looming for adult social care just as local government has to deal with the added pressure of supporting integration with health services. Margaret Willcox explains the importance of staff, technology and housing to the sector’s future

Next month's National Children's and Adult Services (NCAS) conference will allow us to put social care in the spotlight once again to highlight the huge challenges – and innovative work – within adult social care.

Funding is vital to the future sustainability of social care, which is facing an increasingly real threat of collapse. Another significant problem is recruitment. There is a shortage of people with sufficient skills and motivation to help deliver future social care.
