Councils and residents could be given greater control over council tax in their area under plans announced by the Government.

Councils and residents could be given greater control over council tax in their area under plans announced by the Government this week.

The proposals, put out to consultation, include the right to pay a council tax bill over 12 months rather than the current 10-month standard, discounts for online payment, and council powers to remove second and empty homes tax discounts.
