Technology can deliver a long-term solution to the discharge problem

Utilising technology is a key way to reduce delayed discharge and support person-centred care, says Julie Tyas.

Recent headlines have stated that one in seven beds in acute hospitals are being occupied by patients who would be better off receiving care elsewhere.

This is sometimes a residential social care setting, but often it's in their own home. Sadly, persisting issues around discharge processes continue to make it difficult for patients to be discharged - and into the right setting. Having been a social worker for more than two decades, I can safely say these issues aren't new.
