Chester-le-Street BC has launched a text message service for residents to report litter, fly-tipping or abandoned vehicles.

Lead member for environment, Alan Holden, said: ‘By making use of mobile technology, we are bolstering our efforts to crack down on people who commit environmental crime.' The council already has a successful text-message service to report benefit fraud.
