Thinking global while acting local

Local government may be exceptional at understanding the local community, adept at pivoting to meet resident needs and circumstances and alive to local issues. But, increasingly, there is a need to think global as well as to act local.

In the latter part of the last century and the early 2000s, international instability felt distant with little impact on daily life in the UK. Now, the impact of migrants escaping wars, global warming and economic uncertainty reverberates down to our communities.

A flight is chartered to scoop citizens out of Lebanon – following similar humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and Afghanistan in recent years – local government will be springing into action to assist victims of international conflict once again.
