Martin Purbrick explains how an imaginative solution to a growing problem will enable the council to provide an in-county residential home for children in care with complex needs.

Cambridgeshire CC is on track to set up its own Children in Care Residential Service, which will be delivered by an external provider through two council owned properties and will mitigate pressures on capacity and budget, as well as offer stability for children in care.

Within Cambridgeshire, and across the country, there is a growing complexity of need, alongside a lack of local capacity for children and young people with needs in crisis. Children and young people are being placed out of the county, and we are continuing our use of unregistered settings for children in care, as there are at times limited registered options available.
