Tories fear 'decimation' at polls amid EU elections overspill

Conservative councillors concerned they will be decimated in 2014 local polls taking place at same time as EU elections.

Conservative councillors are increasingly concerned that they will be decimated in local polls next year by a UKIP anti-EU bandwagon arising from simultaneous elections for the European Parliament.

The Conservative Councillors' Association (CCA) has lobbied the Government in vain to hold local elections on a separate day to the Euro-polls on 22 May. But ministers insist that on cost grounds alone the elections should be held concurrently.
