The under-fire returning officer for Tower Hamlets LBC has defended the running of this year's elections.

In an exclusive article on The MJ website, John Williams pointed out ‘a lot of unsung effort went on behind the scenes' and insisted allegations of wrongdoing were ‘investigated swiftly by myself and, when necessary, by the police'.
