Town centres reimagined

There is no better time to start the complex and ever-evolving challenge of reinventing town centres, but the most successful regeneration stories share one thing, says Richard Sterling.

New approaches to town centre regeneration offer inspiration in the age of levelling up. We are in the midst of a ‘once-in-a-generation' process of renewing the high street that will see lasting change with local landscapes.

How local authorities navigate this often complex process is the clever bit as it is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Willmott Dixon looked at this over the summer with its Brilliant Buildings: Reimagining Town Centres, which analyses the many strategies now being deployed. One of the strongest messages to emerge is this: no one is better placed to regenerate a high street than those who run it.
