Quarterly statistics from the Office For National Statistics show local government is still bearing the brunt of public sector job losses.

Local government is still bearing the brunt of public sector job losses, accounting for nearly nine out of ten redundancies across government, latest quarterly statistics from the Office For National Statistics (ONS) show.

Public sector employment figures released yesterday reveal councils shed 59,000 jobs out of a total of 67,000 government workforce reductions for the third quarter of 2011.
