Transforming public services

The decision five years ago to wind up Whitehall’s Transformation Unit resulted in a loss of capacity and expertise, according to Pat Ritchie. Now, the new Prime Minister must embrace post-austerity place-based deals, she believes.

It is almost five years since the final report of the independent Service Transformation Challenge Panel was published ahead of the then Coalition Government's Autumn Statement.

At the time, I was pleased to co-chair the panel alongside Sir Derek Myers (formerly of Kensington & Chelsea RLBC). It was fantastic to visit places across the country and witness first-hand, excellent examples of service reform being taken forward. I also picked up a few tips on the way.
