Transforming town centres the public/private way

Allan Lockhart says councils are already strategically acquiring retail and commercial assets in the town centres – working with sector specialists to drive positive change and meet communities’ specific needs.

The traditional retail model has changed exponentially, but the role of the town centre remains pivotal to our daily lives. As important social and economic hubs, town centres serve the needs of communities. However, the challenges facing the retail sector are threatening this balance, and if we want town centres to continue to support communities for future generations, we need to adapt, fast.

To address the challenges, it is important to understand the context.
