The Treasury has renewed support for the Northern Powerhouse project as it makes rebalancing the economy one of its core objectives.

Exchequer secretary, Simon Clarke, delivered the message as he kicked off a nationwide tour of areas that have benefitted from devolution deals and the transforming cities fund.
