Councils have been urged to stop borrowing from private banks by debt campaigners as a TV documentary airs tonight.

As Channel 4 documentary strand Dispatches prepares to probe the issue, Debt Resistance UK (DRUK) called on local authorities to prioritise borrowing from the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB) and pressurise chancellor George Osborne to reduce its ‘excessively high interest rate'.
