Time for a UK-wide debate on tourism levies

Cities south of the border including Birmingham have plans to consider tourism levies. Cllr Judith Blake says Core Cities UK believes it's time for a national discussion about whether one might work in the UK.

We've just had the Local Government Association's (LGA) annual conference week, when the sector comes together to hear from ministers, discuss policy developments and, most importantly, indulge in some group therapy as we contemplate an uncertain national and local future.

The ongoing dysfunction at Westminster makes it all the more important local government continues to set the agenda and this year Core Cities UK has joined up with Key Cities for a round table event that will discuss whether the UK needs a tourism levy.
