Unclaimed benefits: A hidden crisis for local authorities

A data-led proactive approach works when it comes to making sure residents do not miss out on the financial support they are entitled to, and ultimately reducing pressure on core services, says Trevor Holden

The removal of winter fuel payments has brought a renewed focus on the significant issue of people not claiming the benefits to which they are entitled.

 Here at Broadland and South Norfolk DCs, as well as offering our statutory duties as housing and benefits authorities, we also operate a multi-agency ‘Help Hub,' providing residents with wider and more holistic support and advice, including financial wellbeing.
