Union fury over plans to axe pay bargaining

Public sector trade unions attack as 'economically incoherent' chancellor George Osborne’s plan to abolish national pay bargaining by 2013/14.

Public sector trade unions have attacked chancellor George Osborne's plan to abolish national pay bargaining by 2013/14 as ‘economically incoherent', amid concerns government employees face continuing years of depressed wages.

The unions were reacting to comments made by Mr Osborne before the Treasury select committee on 7 December, during which he clarified his desire for local – and not regional – pay settlements.
