Proposals to merge Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds have been dismissed by a major public sector union as not in the best interest of its members or the wider economy.

Senior Unite officers have revealed the union is not looking to support LGPS mergers and is unlikely to do so in the future because of the disparity in funding levels between the 101 funds within the scheme.
