Civil service trade unions have hailed reports claiming ministers have squashed plans to privatise property records body the Land Registry.

Under modernisation proposals trailed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in January, ministers sought to change the ownership structure of the Land Registry, which holds the ownership records for more than 23m properties in England and Wales.
