Crucial talks between ministers and unions over pensions reform have been thrown into doubt following comments made by Treasury minister Danny Alexander, union figures claim.

In a speech made last Friday and in interviews over the weekend, Mr Alexander,the Lib Dem chief secretary to the Treasury, has stated broad acceptance of Lord Hutton's recommendations would form the basis of debate.
