Trade unions have reacted with anger over the decision by local government employers to extend the pay freeze into a third year.

Trade unions have reacted with anger over the decision by local government employers to extend the pay freeze affecting 1.6 million council staff into a third year.

Expressing herself 'absolutely disgusted' by the decision, Heather Wakefield, head of local government at Unison, said town hall bosses had shown no concern for the loyalty of workers, offering instead 'mere platitudes of sympathy for the lower-paid'.
