Trade unions have warned the sale of the country's largest care home provider to a private equity firm threatens standards of elderly care.

Terra Firma's £825m acquisition of Four Seasons Health Care – which operates 445 care homes with 22,364 beds and a further 61 specialist homes – was hailed by city financiers as securing the long-term future of the group.
