Unison has vowed to help prevent failures on the scale of Winterbourne and Mid-Staffordshire, following a report by the health and social care select committee on the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The committee's report, out today, is heavily critical of the CQC, claiming the watchdog was guilty of a 'significant distortion of priorities' when it valued the registration of health providers above its core function of inspection.
