Unite joins strike call in rejection of 1% pay deal

Members of the Unite trade union are set to vote on taking industrial action after rejecting the 1% pay offer tabled by local government employers.

Members of the Unite trade union are set to vote on taking industrial action after rejecting the 1% pay offer tabled by local government employers.

Nine-in-ten of Unite's estimated 70,000 local government members voted to reject the 2014/15 pay offer and the union is set to hold a ballot in early June – in concert with other town hall unions - asking members if they want to take strike action.

Fiona Farmer, Unite national officer for local government, said: ‘Our members have decisively rejected the insulting pay offer of 1% and sent a very strong message to local government employers that they need to increase their offer.'
