With her election as mayor of Chorley BC Cllr Hasina Khan has become the first female Asian mayor in Lancashire. She outlines how her previous work and the experiences she gained led to her new role.

I came from India in the mid 60's with my mother. My father was working in the mills here in Chorley from the early 60's.

I then attended St James's primary school and Albany High School (now Albany Academy) – both in Chorley. I worked on a freelance basis for Radio Lancashire and the Asian Daily Jang in the mid 80's and early 90's.
