Unlocking the potential of technology-enabled care

Robert Turnbull and Alyson Scurfield look at how to build the investment case for technology-enabled care. An investment case must clearly and convincingly answer four questions, they believe.

Technology-enabled care (TEC) has transformed the lives of society's most vulnerable people to live safe independent lives in the place they call home. It can dismantle employment barriers, support caregivers, and empower young people with special needs and disabilities. TEC delivers both better outcomes for people and cost-effective social care for councils.

Ninety-seven percent of councils recognise TEC as crucial in addressing the escalating demand and complexity. This is one insight that was revealed in the recent State of the Sector report from PA Consulting and the TEC Services Association (TSA), which outlines the opportunities, challenges, and enablers of TEC as councils see them. The report is an opportunity for commissioners of TEC services to set out how they want TEC to support their objectives for the first time.
