Local government minister, John Healey, is mulling over Uttlesford DC's request to borrow extra cash or sell public assets to overcome financial problems caused by the Icelandic banking crisis.
Mr Healey revealed on 24 November that Uttlesford had submitted a capitalisation request, after £2.2m of the council's cash – one-fifth of the authority's annual budget – was frozen in a one-year account, just days before it was due to mature.
Mr Healey's review of all local authorities with assets stuck in Icelandic banks has now been completed.
Of the 12 authorities which indicated potential problems with short-term cashflow, including Uttlesford, CLG review teams have now completed preventative assessments. Two councils, Wyre Forest DC and West Lindsey DC, have requested further help from the CLG, while Reigate and Banstead BC has submitted an adjustment to its national non-domestic rate payment.
