Voluntary mergers 'not likely'

The Welsh public services minister has conceded that voluntary mergers are unlikely to happen as the Welsh Government prepares for local government reorganisation.

The Welsh public services minister has conceded that voluntary mergers are unlikely to happen as the Welsh Government prepares for local government reorganisation.

Speaking to The MJ, Leighton Andrews said although he doesn't rule out the possibility out ‘it's more likely we will not see voluntary mergers' before the Welsh Government announces its plans for a reorganisation of the current set of 22 authorities next year.
