Plans to extend the deadline for registering to vote in the European Referendum have thrown local authority electoral plans into disarray.

Plans to extend the deadline for registering to vote in the European Referendum have thrown local authority electoral plans into disarray. 

A total of 525,000 people applied to vote on Tuesday, in addition to 226,000 who applied on Monday. It is believed to be the biggest surge in registrations since online applications were introduced in 2014.
