Electoral registration officers fear an important civic function will be harmed, and vulnerable voters disenfranchised, if government plans to abandon annual canvassing are enacted, an MPs' study has warned.

The Commons political and constitutional reform committee's investigation into individual electoral registration (IER) warns of a real risk that large numbers of people with the right to vote would be lost in moving to new arrangements.
