Wales 'needs six councils'

Too many local authorities in Wales make ‘no real sense for business', according to the CBI.

In a submission to the Beecham review of local service delivery, David Rosser, CBI Wales director, explained that individual businesses were rarely direct users of local services in any major way, relying on local authorities to ‘establish and maintain' a supportive business environment. But, he added, where business was a direct user of local services ‘they frequently find them to be fragmented and planned and delivered within a geographical area, which is often not aligned to local or regional economies'.
