A war of words has broken out between Labour and Conservative politicians over the cost of opposition plans to introduce a series of new measures.

Conservative MPs went on the offensive yesterday, publishing Treasury estimates about a series of Labour election pledges and claiming they would cost more than £20bn alone in the first year of a new Parliament.
