Councils are being forced into a ‘false economy' of closing day-centres for elderly and vulnerable residents due to a lack of funding from central government, the UK's largest public sector union has claimed.

Unison published findings from a survey of social workers on 17 June, suggesting a process of widespread closures and reductions in day centre services has already taken place with more cuts on the way.
