Health officials warn local authorities without a public health director could face difficulties during the transfer of NHS public health staff.

Local authorities without a public health director in post could face difficulties during the transfer of NHS public health staff to town halls from next April, health officials have warned.

Out of the 152 councils taking on public health from the outgoing primary care trusts (PCTs), 133 directors will be needed. A total of 19 areas have still yet to decide whether to appoint a director.
