The NHS will face a £65bn gap in its funding by 2030/31 unless it is given more cash by the Government, health charity the Health Foundation has claimed.
In a report on the financial picture surrounding the NHS, the Health Foundation claims the targets in the NHS England's Five Year Forward document are unrealistic at 2-3% a year. The report says these levels were achieved in the first two years of the current parliament, but maintaining these levels until 2020/21 would ‘represent an unprecedented level of health service productivity improvement'.
