The Local Government Association (LGA) has attempted to rebut accusations of profligate waste among councils made in a Channel 4 Dispatches documentary.

According to the programme, entitled 'How councils waste your money', which screened on 17 June, local authorities spend £30m on chauffeur driven cars annually, and councillor expenses total some £250m a year.
