Waste not, want not, west London

The six west London boroughs have adopted a radical solution to their waste disposal needs, as Keith Townsend explains.

 Working together through the West London Waste Authority (WLWA) a ground-breaking contract has been entered with a consortium led by SITA UK Limited to handle all their non-recycled waste at its new energy recovery facility being developed on an industrial complex outside Bristol.

This highly innovative, and potentially controversial, approach will deliver £59m savings, increase recycling, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
