Watchdogs savage DCLG over £469m wasted in fire failure

DCLG officials in firing line over mismanaged upgrade of fire control rooms.

Spending watchdogs have lambasted as a comprehensive £469m failure, the last government's attempts to rationalise 46 local fire and rescue control rooms into nine regional centres.

The National Audit Office (NAO) has reported the FiReControl project, scrapped by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) last December, lost control of the IT system meant to link the systems into a national control project.
