Water scarcity: an increasing barrier to building

Natalie Brahma-Pearl says water scarcity is the latest issue created by the climate emergency and it is impacting on the ability to build new homes

With significant focus on net zero and climate change, the issue of water is probably the least prioritised of all the utilities. Most of England is classified as ‘seriously water stressed' and by 2050 we need to address a potential deficit of four billion litres of water a day.

Water scarcity is an ever-increasing dilemma and will impact on a growing number of local authorities.
