A Conservative-controlled district council in Surrey is urging the Government to drop its support for an increase in the EU budget, and is calling on its MPs to vote against the proposals.

A Conservative-controlled district council in Surrey is urging the Government to drop its support for an increase in the EU budget, and is calling on its MPs to vote against the proposals.

Councillors at Waverley BC last week voted to support a statement saying: ‘The council notes, with indignation and anger, that while Waverley is facing a massive 18% reduction in its financial settlement in 2011/12, the UK's contribution to the European Union is set to rise by 60% over two years.
