Simon Goacher examines whether a legal challenge from councils over funding could force the Government to change its approach

As the squeeze on local government funding continues, councils will scrutinise the Government's decisions to see if they can be challenged in the courts.

Since the Coalition Government began the cuts to meet its austerity regime, local authorities have sought to challenge reductions in funding where grounds to do so exist. However, the results have been mixed and the circumstances in which the courts will interfere are limited.
